Making breakfast for mum or dad is a great project for kids.

Whether it’s for a special occasion such as a birthday, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, or just a weekend ritual, here are some extra special ideas that little hands can manage.

Pancakes are delicious and something that kids can get involved with...

Yummy Food

  • Under the supervision of an adult, pancakes are delicious and something that kids can get involved with. Mixing, pouring and flipping the pancakes as well as topping and decorating with syrups, ice-cream and fruit are all tasks that young kids can manage.
  • Cinnamon toast can be made by toasting regular sandwich bread in the toaster and cutting out fun shapes with cookie cutters. Butter and sprinkle the warm toast with caster sugar and cinnamon.
  • A fruit platter is a colourful and healthy breakfast that kids can help prepare. Serve with a bowl of thick cream or yoghurt for dipping.
  • Muffins are one of the simplest things to bake and one of the most satisfying when served fresh, straight from the oven. As they only need a bit of light stirring and spooning into muffin cases, kids can play a large part in the preparation.

Kids can make their own themed decoration.

Yummy Drinks

  • Tea and coffee are standard but adults will need to handle the hot water.
  • Smoothies are fun and easy to make.
  • Kids are great at squeezing oranges into fresh juice. And if you have a juicer they can decide what combination of fruits and vegetables they want to put together, then guess what colour the juice will be.
